**UPDATE as of May 1, 2023: We can only take new boarding dogs that are either small (under 35 lbs) or senior dogs. No puppies or big dogs, please. Thanks for your understanding.**
Dog Boarding
We take care of a very few dogs in our homes and to support a calm, healthy environment, we accept only spayed and neutered adult to senior dogs that are housetrained and current on their shots. They must be social or uninterested in other dogs (but not anti-social!). Boarding dogs go on a hike every day of at least an hour, although senior or disabled boarding dogs may instead get neighborhood walks on leash.
We do not leave dogs in the backyard or garage unattended--our guests stay in our homes with us and have supervised yard time. The boarding rate is $95 per day per dog. We always do a trial night in advance of boarding so that we can be sure that the dogs will feel comfortable staying with us. The cost of the trial night is the same as a night of boarding. (For dogs that have special needs, we reserve the right to add on $5 per day for extra clean-up time, etc.) Our price is still less expensive than what it costs to board a dog in the large local doggy day cares or kennels, but of course your dog's experience is much more personal. We promise we will only use positive reinforcement to motivate our dog clients--we won’t put a shock collar or choke chain on a dog or use harsh "corrections." Controlling with fear is not the way to treat anyone, especially the animals in our care.
Details
Drop-off and pick-up times must be confirmed with the boarder. Boarding day rates are based on calendar days, (not 24-hour periods,) so the client pays for a boarding day regardless of what time the dog gets dropped off. If the client picks up the dog before 10:00 AM, we do not charge for boarding that day. If a dog is picked up after 10:00 AM, we do charge for boarding that day. Extra early-morning and late-evening drop-offs and pick-ups may be arranged with the boarder, but may be subject to an additional charge of $20. There is an additional $35 charge per day on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas.
I discovered Doggy Lama Pet Care through an online search and had my senior pup stay there while I went out of town for the week. I left my pup at other local dog boarding spots in the Bay Area, but I will say my dog enjoyed his stay the most at Doggy Lama Pet Care. My dog became friends with other chill seniors and I can tell he enjoyed his hikes and Molly's good vibes. I received pictures of my dog in action in with the other pups everyday, and it was really comforting to know he was socializing, happy and safe. I highly recommend Doggy Lama to those that want good service and a safe, fun environment for your pup.
